First Quiet Group Study Session at Richter!

Dear INS graduate students,

As was discussed at the orientation on 8/26/2011, the INS GSA would like to arrange quiet study sessions in a reserved room at Richter Library. We will provide free Starbucks coffee. See below for time and location.

The concept: As graduate students, we spend a lot of time alone. These sessions are intended to allow us to be just as productive as when we are alone, but in the presence of other warm bodies. This is an academic (rather than a social) event; continued sponsorship by the INS GSA is contingent on degree of participation and productivity. In order to create and maintain a distraction-free environment, we ask you to please respect the guidelines below.

INS graduate study session "etiquette":

1. Abstain from any conversation (no matter how brief) inside the study room. If you need to communicate with someone else inside the room, quietly signal for them to follow you outside.
2. If you are being distracted, you are entitled to politely ask anyone to be quiet or take their conversation outside.

3. Clean up after yourselves.
4. The last to leave should throw away the empty coffee containers, napkins, etc. and make sure the room is clean. INS GSA officers make the reservations using their personal library accounts.
5. Rooms seat 4-6 people. If you see that it's full, pass by again later and see if a space has opened up.

Where and When:

Date: Sept. 9, 2011

Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm (We have the room for three hours, the longest period of time allowed in the library's reservations system.)

Room 206 (seats 6)

Please let us know how it went after the session.  You can forward your comments and concerns to Patrick (p.thompson3@umiami.edu) or Menaka (mmahajan@umiami.edu).

Thanks, we hope to see you there!
